2021 Crawford County Envirothon News

“The Blue Team” Envirothon team from CASH (Conneaut Area Senior High) won First Place at the Crawford County Virtual Envirothon that was held on April 14. They will represent Crawford County at the PA State Envirothon being held during the month of May 2021.  Members of the Blue Team are: Aubrey Zmarzly, Haillee Eikis, Maria Poff, Julianna Jacobs and Nathaniel Turner (left to right in photo).  Their team Advisor is Erin McLaughlin, a Biology Teacher at CASH.

Other Crawford County winners were:  Second Place: Saegertown High School’s “Greco’s Geckos.”  Team members are:  Ripley Kindervater, Landis Crawford, Zayda Riggle, Trinity Ives and Ava Jones.  Advisor:  Chris Grecko

Third Place: CASH “The Ducks.”  Team members are:  Lynsee Bernhardt, Ella Vorisek, Collin Hearn, Ryan Kean and Madison Gilliland.  Advisor:  Erin McLaughlin

Envirothon teams compete by taking tests on their knowledge in five subject areas: Aquatics, Forestry, Soils and Land Use, Wildlife and Current Environmental Issues.  This year the Current Issue topic is “Water Resource Management:  Local Control and Local Solutions.”

The Envirothon is a product of Pennsylvania’s Conservation Districts.  They are assisted by professionals from the PA Fish & Boat Commission, the PA Game Commission, the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and DCNR Bureau of Forestry, Penn Sate Cooperative Extension, PA Department of Environmental Protection, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, PA Sea Grant and the PA Department of Education. This year the Crawford County Virtual Envirothon was also sponsored by the Pennsylvania Trappers Association, Inc., District #1.
