Crawford County Celebrates Conservation District Week

The Pennsylvania State Senate and the House of Representatives declared April 15 to April 21, 2018 as “Conservation District Week.” The dates coincide with Earth Day (April 22nd) events and celebrations.

There are 66 conservation district offices across the Commonwealth in every county except Philadelphia. These offices have volunteer directors and staff who focus on local natural resource protection.  We are your neighbors who are working to ensure there is enough clean water. We also promote healthy soil for the future. That is something to celebrate!

“We are excited to celebrate Conservation District Week,” said Crawford County Conservation District Manager, Tracey Crawford.  “We need your support in protecting Crawford County’s natural resources.”

During Conservation District Week, offices across the state will be celebrating with a variety of activities.  Here in Crawford County, we will be starting off the week with a Clean-up at the County Forest Property on Monday April 16th, followed by our Annual Tree Seedling Sale on Friday April 20th, and in its 10th year, our Earth Day Grocery Bag Program thanks to Tops Market in Meadville and H&H Market in Saegertown.  These stores distribute earth day art work on reusable paper bags from 165 students at 2nd District School in Meadville and from 200 students at Saegertown Elementary in Saegertown. Other events include an Envirothon Training Day held in Stainbrook Park on April 25th and the PA Envirothon Event at Pymatuning State Park on May 2nd We will also be announcing several Dirt, Gravel & Low Volume Road Contracts for improvements made to our local roads throughout the month of April.  All of these events will show the projects districts work on every day that promote good stewardship of our natural resources.  Working together, citizens can ensure there is enough funding for conservation districts.  Please encourage conservation by thanking your legislators for providing state funds supporting conservation district programs and projects.
